As many of you may already know, Hong Kong is notorious for its sticky humid weather during the Summer season. While intermittently stepping into air-conditioned rooms is one method of diminishing the heat, a more enjoyable alternative is turning to the refreshing taste of cold ice cream.
Unfortunately, traditional dairy-based ice cream is incompatible with the dietary preferences of many, including vegans. This means that we’re often left to less-appealing ways of relieving our heat. Thankfully, the Hong Kong-based brand, Happy Cow, is combating this issue by offering products that boast the same irresistible flavour, plus the added benefit of being free of dairy, egg, soy, gluten and cholesterol.
Made with coconut cream and coconut sugar, their products are free of artificial flavours, colourings and preservatives. The sugar levels are also lower than other competitive brands by around 30-40%. Not only does this make them “worry free”, but being both vegan and halal certified, they can happily be enjoyed by all—including those with food allergies!
In response to the growing demand for vegan sweat-wicking treats, this Summer, Happy Cow has launched FOUR new flavours under the latest Fresh Fruit series, including a limited edition Golden Pillow Durian flavour (which was enjoyable to eat even for someone who isn’t a fan of durians!) while stocks last, Strawberry, Pineapple Coconut, and Banana Caramel. While their durians are sourced authentically from Thailand, the pineapples and bananas are fresh from the Philippines.
Moreover, throughout September, they will be offering a Buy-1-Get-1-Free discount for all orders where the first cup is selected from one of these four flavours. Apart from Golden Pillow Durian, the second cup can be selected from any one of their other flavors, including some of the most popular options, such as: Choc Choc Cookie (this was previously offered as a special flavor during the Valentine’s campaign with Harbour City but is now only available at their shop by the observation wheel), Ginger (made with fresh ginger cut into shred and slag juice), and Salted Caramel.
Speaking from personal experience, Happy Cow exceeds the standard set by other major brands of ice cream. Because of their unique coconut-based flavouring, many non-vegans I know even prefer it over regular ice cream! Aside from all the new Fresh Fruit flavours, my favourites include Salted Caramel, Dragon Berry, and Choc Choc Cookie.
There’s no better feeling than being able to enjoy a Summer treat alongside family and friends, and Happy Cow makes this possible through their inclusive products catered to various dietary preferences. You can find their newest ice cream flavours at their parlour under the Hong Kong Observation Wheel, or scattered around multiple stores around Hong Kong (such as City Super, Live Zero, and Loving Hut).
